You don’t need sugar plum fairies to treat your little one to a tasty meal fit for the holiday season! Try our different and delicious Beet, Plum and Ginger Purée recipe and include baby in the joys of holiday flavors without a lot of added sugar.

At FoodieKid we are strong believers in introducing baby to the flavor of vegetables without the help of added sugar or sweeteners.  That’s why our Simple Starters contain pure, organic vegetables and nothing else! But that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun playing with flavors that work together once baby has gotten to know and like a veggie on it’s own.  After all, exposing baby to a variety of foods and flavor profiles will keep meal time interesting and baby engaged!

Our Beet, Plum + Ginger Purée recipe combines fiber rich beets with the sweet tart flavor of plum and a touch of warming ginger to delight baby’s taste buds. The Simple Starters Root Veggie & Squash Pack makes it super easy to work with (finger staining) beets because all of the peeling and chopping has been done for you! And if you’re looking for an easy way to add some protein to this meal, just stir in some greek yogurt into prepared purée. A simple, healthy and delicious meal for baby in minutes - now that’s something to celebrate!

Ingredients:

FoodieKid Simple Starters Root Veggie and Squash Pack, Beets: 1 Packet

Plum: ½ cup, diced (about 1 small plum)

Fresh Ginger Root: 3 inch piece, peeled and sliced

Greek Yogurt: 3-4 tablespoons (optional)

Instructions:

Fill a 2 quart pot with water 2 inches from the bottom and bring to a boil. Once the water boils, insert steamer basket and add the contents of the FoodKid’s Simple Starters Root Veggie and Squash Beet packet along with ginger slices and plum. Close steamer basket and cover for 10 minutes. Allow steamed beets and plum to cool slightly and remove ginger. Blend until smooth (using an immersion blender or standard blender) with about 3 tablespoons of the cooking liquid.

To add protein to this puree, add about 3-4 tablespoons of full fat greek yogurt and blend until smooth (optional).
